Iain Gardiner : Actor /Performance Artist
Iain Gardiner has had a 40 year career in Australian film, theatre and TV.
Iain studied Stanislavski with Vladek Sheybal and impulse work with Zygmunt Molik of the Grotowski Theatre Lab at QUT in the late 70`s.Iain attended the East 15 school in London , where He trained in Alexander Technique and Voice with Michael Mc Callion.Iain worked with Charles Marowitz,Canadian Mime co,and Ken Campbell, appearing in his 22 hr sci-fi epic " THE WARP' at Edinburgh and the ICA London. Iain returned to OZ in 1981.
An early highlight was 'doubling' Judy Davis in "HEATWAVE" .
Iain learnt film technique in ABC dramas , appearing with veterans such as Ed Deveraux & Henri Szeps.Iain was a series regular in “PATROL BOAT”, guested in A COUNTRY PRACTICE, BELLAMY, RAFFERTY' S RULES, E- STREET etc.,and forged a career in various feature and short films. Iain also worked in experimental & mainstream theater, film and music video production, Iain was a member of the Macau Collective which independently wrote and produced the 1990 feature film, “RESISTANCE”.
From 1990. Iain worked in regional theater for North Coast theater Co (VINCENT, SUMMER OF THE 17TH DOLL) ,Theater North, &the original NORPA Festival production of “ THE CARS THAT ATE PARIS.” Iain appeared in Bob Maza`s production of “NO SUGAR” for NORPA. He co-devised and facilitated indigenous theatre skills programs and productions in the Northern Rivers of NSW
Iain debuted on the Brisbane stage for the Queensland theatre in 1994 in Rodney fishers “ a Winters` Tale, MODD 2000', “THE TEMPEST, THE FOREST, MOLLY SWEENEY and THE LONESOME WEST. For La BOITE: “ The Dance of JEREMIAH” and “ JAMES & JONNO”.
Iain forged a parallel film career in productions like THE GREAT RAID, GHOST SHIP, and the acclaimed 2005 western, THE PROPOSITION.
In recent times ,Iain has had small roles in Australia Day ( Kriv Stenders )
and ELVIS (Baz Luhrmann).
Since the late 90`s , Iain has has worked as an MC, performance coach, corporate roving entertainer, community artist, performance poet, taught acting and worked in festival performance art pieces, collaborating on the Woodford Festival cult event "The Cleavers", his own tonight show "IWT with Perry Uomo", and co-directed a the immersive performance piece "DISTURBIA 2525".
Iain recently directed " THERAPIST" at the 2013 SHORT&SWEET Festival , and appeared in "Keeping up Appearances", which won the Peoples Choice award at the same festival. He recently returned to the stage in the 4MBS Shakespeare Festival production of "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM in November 20.
This year Iain notched up 10 years as a mental health support worker
